2013-2014

This year middle school science launches into a study of our physical world and its laws! Carlisle Christian Academy's 6th, 7th and 8th graders are learning about chemistry, waves, forces and electricity. We love to get our hands dirty and minds engaged with experiments and experiences. Join us here on our blog to see what we are doing in class! You can contact Mrs. Tiday at ctiday@carlislechristian.org.

Test Prep for Chapter 2

This test has 3 parts:  Notebook check, definitions and a lab.  Be sure that you know the definition of the words below (I included 2 definitions that are not elsewhere on this website) and be able to put the different types of matter in order by size.  In addition, be prepared to take the mass and volume of an object and use this information to find the density.  Be sure to also have your notes with you in class.

Words to be able to define!
  • element
  • chemical formula
  • matter
  • periodic table -  A way of arranging the elements in order of the number of protons each has.
  • energy (and types of energy)
  • atom - The smallest single particle of an element.  It is composed of electrons, neutrons and protons.
  • thermal energy
  • the Law of the Conservation of Mass

* The definitions for these words can be found in your notes and on this website.  I have included in italics the definitions for those that might be more difficult to find.

Be able to put these in order of size.  Which is the smallest?

  • neutron
  • a Hydrogen atom (#1 on the periodic table)
  • electron
  • one molecule of H20
  • a cell
