2013-2014

This year middle school science launches into a study of our physical world and its laws! Carlisle Christian Academy's 6th, 7th and 8th graders are learning about chemistry, waves, forces and electricity. We love to get our hands dirty and minds engaged with experiments and experiences. Join us here on our blog to see what we are doing in class! You can contact Mrs. Tiday at ctiday@carlislechristian.org.

Poster Instructions for Chapter 3

Students who did not finish their poster in class are bringing the poster home this weekend to finish it.  Below you will find the instructions that were given for the assignment.  This poster serves as the test for ch 3.

Situation: The poster that you will create will be found in every hallway of the spaceship Atlampus.  This great spaceship carries the first ambassadors from the planet Atlasum.  The inhabitants of Atlampus must understand the states of matter of planet earth before landing.  Help them to understand Earth by including these main points:

1.      Include a title welcoming the spaceship to earth.
2.      Include the subtitle: Understanding Earth’s States of Matter
3.       List the states of matter in order from HIGHEST energy to LOWEST energy.
a.        Include a drawing that represents 3 of the states.
b.      Label each drawing.
4.      Include a section that explains how the addition of energy or subtraction of energy can cause a CHANGE from one state of matter to another.
a.       Include the scientific name for 2 of these types of changes.
b.      Include a labeled illustration of how you can change a substance from one state to another.
5.      Clearly explain the laws that govern gases.
a.       Use the correct scientific name for the laws.
b.      Give an example of one of these laws.
c.       Tell whether the law is presents a direct proportion or an inverse proportion when graphed.

Be sure that the writing on your poster is clear and that the descriptions/ pictures are accurate.  Any attempt to do otherwise will be seen as an act of aggression toward our alien visitors  :)   (and will affect your grade).
